The Global Problem of Food Adulteration
Food quality is a global concern that directly impacts health and consumer trust. As one of the world’s largest agricultural producers, ensuring the integrity of our products is essential. The need for effective detection methods is crucial to combat fraudulent practices and promote fair competition.
International Symposium on Food Safety and Control
OpenScience was featured at the International Symposium on Food Safety and Control, a major event held at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, Austria, from May 27 to May 31, 2024. Our fully OpenScience-developed multispectral microscope was one of the main attractions at the event.
This technological breakthrough allows for "seeing" in wavelengths invisible to the human eye, providing advanced diagnostics and enhancing quality control across various sectors, including food. The project was developed with a focus on access to open-source and low-cost technologies, aiming to democratize technology and promote greater transparency in industrial and safety processes.
Multispectral Microscope: Applications in Food Safety
The multispectral microscope developed by OpenScience has the potential to revolutionize food inspection. Using cutting-edge technology, this equipment can detect subtle variations in a variety of products, such as coffee, spices, meats, and grains, which are undetectable to the naked eye.
This capability not only facilitates the identification of impurities or adulterations but also serves as a valuable and low-cost tool. It complements other established techniques and can act to ensure the quality and authenticity of products and combat fraudulent practices in the global market.
OpenScience is proud to be a Brazilian company that contributes to global food safety with chemical data science and accessible analytical instrumentation. Our goal is to increase analytical capacity and transparency worldwide.
We invite you to join this journey and celebrate Brazilian innovation that is helping to shape a safer and more transparent future for everyone.
